Hundreds of plastic pink flamingos adorn Bascom Hill at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as part of the annual "Fill the Hill" event, held this autumn on Oct. 28, 2016. The event, which is part of the UW's "All Ways Forward" campaign, places a pink flamingo on Bascom Hill for each donation received that day. (Photo by Jeff Miller/UW-Madison)

Life-Changing Research

For nearly eight decades, the partnership between the federal government and our nation’s top research institutions has fueled discovery, innovation, and economic vitality. Today, that partnership is under extraordinary strain.

Grant terminations, legal uncertainties, drastic shifts in funding priorities, and the revocation of support for international students and scholars are threatening our capacity to pursue breakthrough ideas, support rising talent, and remain globally competitive, both now and for years to come.

As one of America’s leading research universities, UW–Madison must meet this moment.

How your gifts make an impact

You can help not only to sustain crucial work happening now, but to ensure there is a foundation of excellence for decades to come. Your gift can:

  • support highly talented graduate students who have lost or are at risk of losing funding, so they do not have to leave UW–Madison or pause their academic journey
  • sustain life-changing research projects that have been either frozen or canceled
  • provide bridge funding for labs, keeping them going while they seek larger grants, publish critical findings, or pivot to new research directions

Why we need your support

In the words of Dr. Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska, UW–Madison’s vice chancellor for research: “Research saves lives and transforms our world. We must act quickly to support our talented students to continue their academic journey at the UW and fuel their ability to live out the Wisconsin Idea.”

It isn’t only students, faculty, and staff who are impacted by funding cuts. Research participants, patients, families, and countless others around the world — perhaps even you — will feel the ripple effects of terminated research.

Help us preserve the transformational research at the core of UW–Madison. Together, we can keep the university moving FORWARD.

Gifts will be contributed to the Strategic Research Initiatives Fund – 112448020 at the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
