Students participating in an activity for the Lakeshore Nature Preserve

Lakeshore Nature Preserve

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a unique 300-acre natural area on the UW–Madison campus that plays a pivotal role as a living classroom for university teaching, research, and outreach. It also serves as a sanctuary for respite and well-being, inviting campus and community members to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

How your gifts make an impact

Protecting and enhancing the woods, wetlands, prairies, and savannas that comprise the Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a top priority.

By contributing to the Stewardship Fund, you can directly address the Preserve’s most pressing needs, such as erosion control, invasive plant removal, and native plant restoration. Your support also helps us provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for student interns in conservation fields.

Why we need your support

Private support is vital to the Preserve’s ongoing success, supporting about 35 percent of its annual operating budget.

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve — its shady paths, lake views, birdsong, and gathering places — helps make UW–Madison an extraordinary place to learn, work, and visit. With your generosity, we can ensure the long-term health of the Preserve for generations of Badgers to come.

Gifts made in support of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve will be contributed to the Lakeshore Nature Preserve Stewardship Fund at the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
