The Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program advances interdisciplinary research and teaching on Chican@ and Latin@ populations. Our faculty study Latin@ political and social organizations in the U.S. as well as immigration and Puerto Rican history; criminalization and incarceration; and Latin@ literatures, cultures, arts, and media. Still others research the educational experiences of Latin@s in both K–12 and higher education, Latin@ participation in rural and urban economies, and Latin@ health and well-being. Together, we promote the success of Chican@ and Latin@ students at UW–Madison through supportive programming and events.
How your gifts make an impact
Your generous donation will bolster this valuable research, teaching, and educational opportunities. We will use your gift to support students through valuable pre-professional activities, such as editing and publishing the undergraduate Latinx Studies Journal; ongoing activities to promote student success and belonging, such as study jams and community gatherings; and essential student internship opportunities.
Why we need your support
For decades, we offered only a certificate program of study. However, in response to student demand, we now offer a major in Chican@ and Latin@ studies, and we just graduated our first major class of 17 students in 2024! You can help us to meet the needs of our growing major. With your gift, we can educate the next generation of Chican@ and Latin@ studies scholars!
Gifts made in support of the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies will be contributed to CLS Discretionary Fund at the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
