The Department of African Cultural Studies (ACS) at UW–Madison has long been a vibrant leader in the exploration of African languages, literature, art, film, and culture — shaping thoughtful, globally engaged critical thinkers. In honor of Professor Emeritus Aliko Songolo and his many years of dedicated teaching and service to the department, the department established a $2,500 annual summer research award to support our students. This award fuels transformative research that strengthens our students’ connection to the depth and diversity of African cultural expression while equipping them to make meaningful contributions in their fields.
During Fill the Hill, your gift will support the Aliko Songolo Summer Research Award, carrying forward Professor Songolo’s inspiring legacy by investing in the talents of our students and empowering them to pursue bold scholarship and real-world impact. Whether you’re an alum or a friend of the department, your support makes a meaningful difference in providing enriching opportunities for our students, ensuring that African perspectives continue to inspire and transform the world.
