Because of budget cuts to UW–Madison’s library system, the Geology and Geophysics Library is one of several that recently closed, with materials and shelving moved to another location.
While this is unwelcome and sad news, 6,500 square feet of bright, welcoming library space remains, including worktables and white boards. We know how valuable this space is for group work, lab work, TA office hours, and other community uses that support our students, faculty, and geoscience community.
How your gifts make an impact
We are seeking input from students, staff, faculty, and alumni to help us develop a plan for the old library space. Meanwhile, we are focusing on growing and endowing the C. K. Leith Library Fund so that we will be ready to bring these plans to life.
This fund was established in 2013 with a $200 gift from Robert Blodgett ’72 and Jeffrey Hudson. Its primary purpose was to strengthen and enhance library resources and activities in support of the geosciences. We believe establishing a strong foundation for the new library is the best way to start as we plan how to rebuild the physical space.
Why we need your support
Right now, there is no campus financial support available for the redevelopment of the old library space. That is why we are turning to our GeoBadger community for support.
