The Chicanx/e and Latinx/e Studies Program advances interdisciplinary research and teaching on Chicanx/e and Latinx/e peoples. Our faculty study Latinx political and social organizations in the U.S., as well as immigration and Puerto Rican history; criminalization and incarceration; and Latinx literatures, cultures, arts, and media. Still others research the educational experiences of Latinxs in both K–12 and higher education, Latinx participation in rural and urban economies, and Latinx health and well-being. Together, we promote the success of Chicanx/e and Latinx/e students at UW–Madison through supportive programming and events. In response to student demand, we now offer a major in Chicanx/e and Latinx/e studies, and we have graduated 31 majors over the past two years!
How your gifts make an impact
Your generous donation will support students through valuable preprofessional activities, such as editing and publishing the undergraduate Latinx Studies Journal; ongoing activities that promote student success and belonging, such as study jams and community gatherings; and essential student work-study and internship opportunities. Your donation will also support our annual speaker series featuring leading scholars in Latinx studies, as well as faculty research, teaching, and outreach initiatives.
Why we need your support
In anticipation of our 50th anniversary as an academic unit in 2026, we are launching a special one-year “50 for 50” fundraising effort — starting now! We would like to raise $50,000 between now and September 2026. With your generous donation, you can help ensure that we meet the needs of our growing major and remain here for another 50 years to educate the next generation of Chicanx/e and Latinx/e studies scholars!
